New Video: Southern Sunrise- ‘Brighton’
Posted: May 14, 2013 Filed under: Features Leave a comment »Southern Sunrise have unveiled the video for new track ‘Brighton’, which is also the title track from their debut EP, out on 1st June. The duo – comprised of York’s Shonagh Macleod and Holland’s Arjan Pieters – bring together their different influences for a song about the quirky seaside town. Macleod sweetly sings, “We’ll dance through the night, dance with those lights, dance though the night ’til we fall apart”, as songwriter Pieters adds some harmonies over the folky guitar, soft drums and tingling xylophone keys.
The video is centred around taking in the sites of Brighton – the beach, pier, the lanes and the dome – as the hushed words about warm pebbles beneath your feet create a homely atmosphere. It’s like a tourism ad for Brighton, they certainly sell the place!

New Video: JAN – ‘Work For The City’
Posted: May 9, 2013 Filed under: Features Leave a comment »JAN has unveiled the video for her new single ‘Work For The City’, taken from her self-titled debut out on 17th June Via Enclaves Music. JAN is Brooklyn’s Kim Talon, of LA duo Eagle & Talon, and she’s recently recorded her 12-track debut with The Gossip and Blonde Redhead producer John Goodmanson. The track has a feisty nature, not vocally dissimilar to Marina and the Diamonds, though it’s more vamped up with bigger riffs and a smashing beat, which sound a tad Paramore-ish.
The video features JAN in everyday situations like in a bed, brushing her teeth, on the bus – not all at the same time – but they’re made odd by people surrounding and touching her for no apparent reason. Eventually, the end she appears to be getting into a bit of a tizzy about it, too right!

Review: Oliver Wilde – ‘Flutter’
Posted: May 8, 2013 Filed under: Reviews Leave a comment »Oliver Wilde has showcased the impressive ‘Flutter’, taken from his debut LP, ‘A Brief Introduction To Un-Natural Light Years’, due for a July release via Howling Owl Records. So why is this so impressive? Bristol artist Oliver Wilde has devised this wonderful sound for himself, where his silky voice is embedded among the natural-sounding intricacies of the guitar and some lush reverb-coated pulsations hovering in the background.
Nearer the end, once Wilde has chillingly murmured, “It’s a long way down”, a couple of times the music takes a more glitchy direction. Confused fuzzing noises make themselves known as the rest of the tones settle for a quiet end. Wilde has this raw ability to captivate through his compelling, melancholic music, and with that, it’s reminiscent of Deerhunter and James Blake.

New Music: New Lake – ‘Wisdom Teeth’
Posted: May 1, 2013 Filed under: Reviews Leave a comment »New Lake have put out their first demo ‘Wisdom Teeth’. Despite it sounding a bit rough around the edges, the Gloucestershire trio prove they do have something to give in their ambitious riffs and hunger for energy. The track would definitely be single-worthy when re-recorded and polished up. Sean Walker’s resilient vocal coats the music with emotion for a sound that is reminiscent of You Me At Six or a quieter We Are The Ocean.
